I had one of these many years ago. Wore it for many years, through many washings. I actually think that this new one is puffier, with more down stuffing than my old one. I bought the XS (I am 5'3" AND 110 pounds) and had my fingers crossed because usually even size XS things are big on me. The top fits very well. The bottom is very full and actually feels a little cumbersome when you are walking. There is a lot of material and down in the skirt of this robe. Probably would work better for a larger person than it does for me. But when you are sitting it is fine. This robe has 550 down and is rather heavy -- weighs a lot more than my North Face coat (but that is not full length to the ankles like this robe). It is very, very warm, much warmer than by LLBean fleece robe -- which is quite warm! I will wear the down robe in the evenings, when I can spend some time sitting and reading. I think it is a little cumbersome for wearing when you are moving around in the kitchen.I ordered this in the Burgundy color, which as others have noted is not a deep wine but more of a russet rose: like the photo, but not quite as saturated. I usually buy only white, black, grey, and was tempted by the cream but I knew I would be afraid to wear it. The rose color is very soothing, not too bright, and I am glad I made an exception to my no-color policy for this robe. I would love to see this offered in a deep bitter chocolate brown. The fabric is matte and has a great hand. Have not noticed any feathers leaking.Would highly recommend if you want a seriously warm robe. This is a very warm robe, and I'm someone who never seems to be warm enough. It's very comfortable and great to snuggle up in.The label recommends professional laundering. I think this is more because of the bulk of the robe than issues with the materials. I washed it in my front-loader with a towel for balance and had no problem but I think an agitator washer might not have enough room to do a good job. Some earlier posts mentioned shrinkage. Just for my own information I did measure a sleeve and it was about an inch shorter after being washed in cold water and dried on low heat, but it's still long enough to turn up.The only real negative for me is that the inside ties could have been a little longer. Assuming it wears well, this robe is a very good piece to own and to gift.I shouldn't have waited so long to get this. I've used it every day so far. Its so nice and cozy. I was going to get the Extra Small size but because one of the reviewers mentioned shrinking I decided to get the Small. GLAD I DID. I'm only 5'2 and somewhere between 110 and 116 lbs. I washed it cold water cycle and then dried it on delicate cycle (our dryer doesn't have tumble dry low).Pre-washed this robe went down to the tops of my toes covering my ankles and the tops of my shoes. After washing my ankles are now exposed. It got about 3 inches shorter. The sleeves are also about an inch and a half shorter and I don't have to roll them up anymore. The width of the robe is also less than before. The color is just a little less lively than it was before, but only a bit. I probably should've used woolite instead of regular detergent. Really glad I got a size up. The instructions say dryclean only, but I can't be freezing in the house every time I take the robe to the drycleaners so I opted to machine wash instead. If you plan on drycleaning it probably won't shrink. This Robe is so easy to live in. Sometimes I'll even sleep in it! Wearing this robe while also under a nice down comforter in bed makes it so that I never have to turn on the heat while sleeping no matter how cold it is. Some people have mentioned shedding, but for whatever reason my robe hasn't shed much at all. Maybe a couple of feathers but that's it so far nothing really noticeable.Bought this for my wife for Christmas and the other 3 star reviewer is right, it leaks. Not badly but steadily, at least, so far. My experience is that all down products leak a little at first but this seems more than what I'd consider normal. It is especially noticeable in the areas that take weight, like the shoulders. But she says it is very warm. Another issue is the length. I bought her a small (she is 5 foot 3) she struggles to go up stairs because it is kind of long. We'll see after the first dry cleaning if that changes.I'll update: it has almost stopped leaking, so I'll up it to 4 stars. Outstanding robe, at least for your heating bill.2010 update: third winter and the thing looks nearly like the day it was bought. Has been dry cleaned a couple of times, no leakage whatsoever now. Just upped it to 5 stars. My wife loved it during the freezing weather we were just through. In the mid teens, no power for days, struggled to keep the house warm.Kind of made me wish I had one.2012 update, still going strong. For the price, I just don't think you can beat this.2013 update, STILL going strong. Winter is winding down and we are off to the warm. She has worn it every winter morning for 6 years.2014 update. Just returned from Palm Springs, this is the first thing my wife put on when she changed out of her traveling clothes.Pretty amazing. And the 2016 update, I just contacted the seller to get a replacement. Hers is starting to look a little worn. Not bad, very wearable but a little worn out.My wife has had a Warm Things Down Robe for a number of years and she loved its warmth, but like anything else itwas showing wear and tear, time for a new one.So this is the reason I purchased her one for Christmas this year.I was disappointed on its arrival that it came in such a small box and expected a much thicker robe as the old robewould not even fit into the box of the new robe as the new robe has no where near the down filling as the old and Imight say I was greatly disappointed as your old robe was a lot heavier and warmer then the new one.
